Demographics data collected by the NIH reveals great disparity in funding rates between Black and Hispanic researchers compared to their white and Asian counterparts. D.I.Grantase is a donation-based crowdfunding platform born out of the determination to help alleviate the inequities that exist in the traditional research funding mechanisms. Driven by unwavering passion for empowering underrepresented scientists, our platform exists to revolutionize the way research is funded.

Leadership

My journey in academia and business has been marked by a deep passion for basic research, a strong appreciation for mentoring and networking, and a commitment to promoting diversity in the scientific community. The value of empowering researchers from underrepresented backgrounds was crystallized while I was a doctorate student at UMass Chan School of Medicine. My dissertation research focused on leveraging comprehensive high-throughput mutagenesis and cutting-edge next-gen deep sequencing technologies to unravel the intricacies of influenza virus fitness and its resistance to broadly neutralizing antibodies. This research not only broadened our understanding of viral pathogens but also ignited my desire to bridge the gaps in scientific opportunities for underrepresented minorities.


Fueled by an unwavering ambition to make a real-world impact, I embarked on a post-doctoral adventure, immersing myself in translational research. My focus shifted towards utilizing de-identified electronic health records data to build a bridge between clinical insights and scientific innovation. This invaluable experience allowed me to witness firsthand the immense potential of harnessing data to drive healthcare advancements and drug development. Concomitantly pursuing an MBA at the Isenberg Business School at UMass Amherst brought to focus how I can help to effect change in the scientific landscape.


As I continue my journey in the realm of drug development, I am resolute in my commitment to driving change, fostering inclusivity, and championing the cause of underrepresented scientists. Together, we can create a future where diversity is celebrated, knowledge knows no boundaries, and scientific progress benefits all of humanity.
